Aquarium reborn!
I've spent the last month or so reviving the leftover of my aquarium. The reason I had to restart is that I couldn't get rid of the algae in the original incarnation. It was the combination of being careless in putting in a piece of rock from someone else that had algae on it and not being able to stop its spread. The first steps included:
1) Emptying out the old tank to its bare bones

2) Tossing the existing coral into a holding tank

3) Ordering new live rock to toss into the new tank

At the same time, I was scoping out what the new tank might look like. Was going to start with a real small nano of 10 gallons, but after some reading found this neat Oceanic 30 gallon cube. With the aid of some mixups at Petco, I got a sweet deal on the aquarium and stand:
1) So pretty when it's empty

2) And the initial shot with just the sand and rock!

Now that I've had a few weeks to transfer pieces of my old coral over, the tank looks much more lively. Unfortunately, only the firefish made it during the migration process and I recently picked up a purple firefish to go with it. The rock's also been moved around to create more depth... it was kind of hard to get high quality pics, so these smaller ones will have to suffice for now while I figure out how to improve the shots and then post them into the gallery:
1) Full tank shot in all its glory:

2) Close up of the two fish and a few coral in the background:

3) Close up of the upper half of the tank that's housing some of the coral:

More pics and developments to come in the future, no doubt!

Sea Hang II rules!!!
wow, purple fire is so pretty! you named it sea hang II?!??
no, the original seahang jumped out, remember? so the current firefish is technically seahang ii.
the purple doesn't have a name.
oh i thought you had a seahang I and II.
what about naming the purple one loagie?
hehe. ok. he can replace the destructive one... i like the calmer loagie :)
that fishtank is hot. hot as in stolen. see you in hell hubes!
When's the mischievous fish coming back? You know, the one that always pissed you off by kicking sand everywhere, before he mysteriously died.
Also, get the grabbing hands algae. Grab all they can. All for themselves, after all.
I think I'll get the grabby guys again... not so sure about the goby that kept dumping sand everywhere. It was a bittersweet ending...
i cant believe you were happy that goby died!! :( he was my favorite!
i liked goby.. he was just really destructive :(
no no no the grabby hands thing was gross and its colors were nasty anyway.
i liked the yellow dude who spit everywhere. get another one of him!!!
i'm getting some more grabby guys tonight... they're called xenia.
w00t!
Did you ever find the new fish after you put him into the tank?
yeah, i guess you scared him away :)
