Softball resurrection?

I NO LONGER SUCK AT SOFTBALL!!!!

hehe. so today we played another game.. this time against a team called taida (like the university in taipei.. it's an asian league). i had gone to malibu during the week a couple times to hit off their pitching machines with pretty decent success, but i stunk it up again during pregame BP, so i wasn't too excited.

then the first time up, with runners at the corners and one out, i hit a flare into center, drove in a run, and scored!!!! MY FIRST HIT EVER!!!

the inning after that, i got my first chance at playing first, too. had one chance, made a decent stretch and recorded the out off a throw from short. hehe.

the next time i came up, tho.. i led off and took a couple balls before the count ran full. for some reason, i couldn't pull the trigger and stared at strike 3 that was kinda pathetic.

we were the away team and coming up to bat in the top of the last inning down by one, ran off a huge rally and pushed 8 across. this time with runners on the corners and no outs i drilled a single back up the box and took 2nd on the throw to 3rd. 2 RBI!! the only sad part was that i was gunned out at home trying to score from second on a single.

so going into the bottom half of the last inning, we were up 7 and i got to take another inning at first. it got really ugly quick as they pushed a bunch of runs across. our lead had shrunk to 1 with runners at 1st and 2nd and two outs. the opposing hitter singled to left center and our outfielder fielded the ball cleanly and fired a perfect strike to the plate on one hop and we got the runner by a couple steps. talk about dramatic ending!!!

so yah, softball was good today. hehe

in other news, roothie's mentioned in this article on espn: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=neel/040611

it says "but there are times when clichés are the truth, Ruth". hehe.

The end of a softball career?

omg. i'm so bad at softball

we had a doubleheader and we had a bunch of extra players so i was rotating in at C (i didn't get to play first). and i really didn't like having the mask on so it was throwing me off. i started lobbing the ball back to the pitcher instead of throwing it. then when he asked me to throw it back harder, i tried once and short hopped him so he just told me to do what i was doing before. HAHAHAH.

at the plate was even worse.. i went 0-4 in two games and grounded out all the time. i'm such an out maker.

the only consolation was that everyone was trying my new shiny bat and they really liked it. hehe. maybe one day i'll be good with it too. i'm going to go to malibu grand prix every day this next week and hit their pitching machines so hopefully i won't suck as badly next week.

A softball career begins

so i joined this softball team that my housemate andrew is playing on... we had some long practices the past two weekends and our first game is coming up this saturday. the only time i've ever played softball was for like a month or so in a PE class during high school. the main thing i learned from that class is to not let the bat fly out of your hands after you swing because i did that a couple of times and got called out right away.

but anyway, so it's a lot harder than i ever thought it would be. i'm really bad at throwing, but that was sort of expected because i'm bad at all sorts of throwing. hehe. hitting isn't so bad.. still getting the hang of it. someone compared to playing golf and using your hips to generate power.. that's probably not a good sign since i'm pretty weaksauce at golf, too. fielding is ok.. i think i'm going to get to play 1B, so i won't have to do too much excessive fielding or throwing, but just catching throws that come my way. i think i can handle that. outfield would be a nightmare. during part of practice this past weekend, i was in the outfield and everyone had to record an out and then bring it in... i was scared that i would be out in the field forever. somehow, tracking those flyballs isn't as easy as it looks.. haha. luckily, after three or four *really* lazy pop flies, i finally caught one

to get ready for the upcoming season, i've gone on a mini-shopping spree the past week or so. i really like shopping for new sports things.

here's what i got:

except i think i got an older model, so it's black on the inside..

a nice shiny new bat

and some new kicks to get around the bases...

i hope the first game goes well next weekend!
