Algae, algae everywhere!

I have algae in my tank now

Lots of it, too. There's brown stuff on the sand, and then there's this green stuff that looks like little ferns on the tank sides and whisping on some of the rock.

The full tank pic with all the stuff on the glass:

I rubbed a bit of it off to get a pic of some clump of it on a rock.. didn't come out too well, but I think it's hair algae?

And finally, this one rock in the back was pure white when I got it a week ago and now it's a dark color with nice coralline algae (I think/hope):

I'm getting some snails and hermit crabs tomorrow, so hopefully they'll help. I'm planning on letting them eat through the algae while I go up to Tahoe. Anything leftover I'll help cleanup when I get back. They're coming from Miami, though, so hopefully they won't be jet lagged.

An aquarium is born!!!

WOOOOOHOOOOOO!

I went crazy this past weekend; picked up an aquarium stand on Friday, painted it Friday night with Rooth, got sand on Saturday, picked up some live rock on Sunday, and picked up some more live rock tonight. Fired up all the equipment, made some last-minute tweaks, and the tank is cleared up and you can see the rock that I've put in it!!

I have to wait now before I can put living things in there

Here are some more up-close pics:

There's always next year...

Bye bye Big 3

I'm so sad the A's are trading away all their best pitchers...

Dellf tease

Xanga blows. I was trying to copy/paste the below IM conversation (screen names barely changed to protect the innocent) to include colors and fonts, but it didn't. And I can't figure out how to change the color. Stupid xanga. Stupid dellf chick.

Hubert (3:55:22 PM): stupid dellf chick
DrewYay (3:55:29 PM): she's ugly and stingy
Hubert (3:55:32 PM): the least she could do is be hotter
DrewYay (3:55:36 PM): hehe

Great minds think alike! For more info on dellf, go to http://www.dell.com/dellf

Aquarium planning

Hrm. That's odd. I don't remember making that previous post. Maybe my xanga has a mind of its own.

I've only spent like $80 on my setup so far... just a used glass aquarium, a simple plastic container for my sump, a used overflow, and some pvc piping from osh. It's pretty sweet how easy pvc is to connect together.. even I could do it!

I'm probably still a few months away from fish, but here's what I think I want to get to go with some live rock and coral:

some clownfish...

a royal gramma (probably get this first since it's cheapest)...

some firefish!!!

a flame angel!!

(maybe a coral beauty instead of the flame angel)

But I still got a pretty long way to go before I can add fishies
